SJ Pottery was begun in 1988 by Susan Skinner and Joseph Jostes. They are once again listed in the 2008 Early American Life Directory of Traditional American Crafts. SJ Pottery is a limited production pottery studio, producing traditionally inspired redware, wood fired saltglazed stoneware, and whatever else catches their fancy. Each piece is unique and will vary from other pieces.
Their pottery ware is lead-free and dishwasher safe. It is not recommended to use this ware in microwaves or ovens. Since redware is not suitable for long-term storage of wet ingredients, think of your redware in terms of serving, not storage. The redware pitchers and vases may be used for live arrangements by simply lining the piece with a jar or plastic tumbler. After serving in redware, we recommend emptying the bowls and platters and storing leftovers in something else. If you want a “refrigerator” pitcher, we recommend a stoneware pitcher. For dry storage, this redware and stoneware will serve you well.
